Fifth inning burst lifts Moose over visiting Tigers, 8-6

Photo by Stephen Jiron Alamosa pulled away from a tied game with a 3-run fifth inning in their home meeting with La Junta on Tuesday.

ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Baseball team was home for a non-conference meeting with La Junta on Tuesday which they took by an 8-6 margin.

Alamosa started hot taking a 3-2 lead in the first inning but then slowed to a crawl allowing a 4-4 game in the third inning. Both teams went scoreless in the fourth inning before Alamosa created another 3 run rally in the fifth which wound up being the difference in the game for an 8-6 final.

Three Moose tied for the team lead in runs – Donovan Ramirez, Evan Sowards and Tyler Duarte each scoring two for Alamosa. Hayden Shawcroft took the RBI team lead with 3 in the Tuesday game.

Senior pitcher Tyler Duarte picked up the win allowing a 3.4 earned run average.    

Alamosa will head north for a tournament in Salida next. The Moose will take on the host Spartans on Friday in a 9 a.m. contest. Play is expected to continue into the weekend with Pagosa Springs and a yet-to-be announced opponent also on the slate.
