Blaze named 'Tobin Fire' after nearby canyon

BLANCA- More than 30 firefighters, one helicopter and three aircraft battled what has been named the Tobin Fire on the southside of Mt. Blanca on Tuesday.

Incident Commander Paul Duarte, division chief for the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, estimated the fire at 30 acres with only minor containment as of 5 p.m. Tuesday. Two single engine air tankers based in Durango, a heavy air tanker based in Albuquerque and a helicopter and hand crew from Canon City assisted firefighters on the ground in the heavily vegetated, rough terrain.

Water was obtained from a nearby irrigation pond by the helicopter for repeated drops.
