Fire destroys campsite

ALAMOSA– A homeless campsite at St. Benedicts on the south end of town was destroyed by fire about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Alamosa Fire Chief Don Chapman.

Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour extinguishing a tent and other belongings as well as nearby brush and trees. Chapman said the cause of the fire is under investigation and the apparent occupants of the camp were not available to question.

No injuries were known of.

Nine firefighters with two brush trucks responded to the fire, Chapman said.
