First day of state track meet in the books

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A number of events worked their way through preliminary heats on Thursday. Now comes preparation for the final heats over the next couple days. So far three schools from the SLV have gotten on the board in the first day of Track and Field. Del Norte’s girls have picked up 5.5 points in two events, Sanford boys got 5 and Alamosa’s boys have picked up 3.

In the 3A class Alamosa’s boys earned their points in the 4x800 meter relay where they placed seventh with a collective time of 8:15:83. From Alamosa the Jackson brothers Chad and Ian both advanced to the boys’ 400-meter dash finals on Saturday at noon. Chad finished with a time of 49.15 which was the fastest of both heats while Ian finished fourth in his heat with a time of 49.88.

Alamosa’s girls have yet to post points but have qualified for finals in five different events. Lilly Lavier will partake in the finals in both the 200 and 400 meter runs while teammates Allyssa Romero and Mary Streeter will compete in the 400 meter Dash and 100 meter hurdles respectively. All that in addition to the girls' relay teams taking part in both the 800 meter Sprint Medley and 4x200 meter Relay finals. The Lady Moose’s first opportunity to collect points will be today’s 800M Sprint Medley finals at 12:15 p.m.  

The 2A class got going in the first day of competition as well.  For Del Norte’s girls points came thanks to the relay team finishing seventh in the 800 meter Relay to collect three points. Lacie Jones added 2.5 points to the team score with her High Jump of 4’ 10” to tie for seventh place. Del Norte’s girls also took sixth in the 800M Sprint Medley to qualify for finals. Brady Lenz of Sanford added 5 points to his team score and placed fifth in the long jump finals with a 20 foot effort.
From Center girls’ team Malyka Medina already wrapped two of her preliminary events. Medina finished in sixth in the 100 meter dash and eighth in the 200 meter dash. She will get her first opportunity to take home a medal on Saturday with the 2A Girl’s 100M Dash finals.

In 1A Sangre de Cristo’s Alliyah Garcia just missed adding team points on her discus throw by three inches. The Thunderbirds will get another shot at collecting points when Robert Gutierrez throws the discus today at 1:30 p.m. For complete results and live stats on today’s action follow along on CHSAAnow's website.
