Recently the United Methodist General Conference passed legislation restricting the involvement of LGBTQ people in the life and ministry of the church. First United Methodist Church in Alamosa is a Reconciling Church, which means it considers all people equal in the sight of God and welcomes all into full membership and participation. Our ministry remains the same in spite of the recent decisions.
There are still questions as to whether the legislation is legal under church rules, but regardless of what the future holds for the denomination, First UMC in Alamosa remains committed to inclusive ministry for all people. We especially want to let our LGBTQ brothers and sisters know that they are welcome in our congregation.
