Flores arrested in Del Norte for ties to local thefts

DEL NORTE — The Del Norte Police Department, the Rio Grande County Sheriff and Angels and Outlaws Bail Bondsman out of Pueblo made several arrests Dec. 1.

Law enforcement officers were at a house in east Del Norte for several hours carrying out their search warrants. According to reports from Del Norte Police Chief Robert Fresquez the suspect sought by the bail bondsman company was the catalyst that caused the arrest of four individuals, one of which was a person of interest in the thefts happening around town for the last two years.

“We were very fortunate to have the help of the sheriff’s department and all those involved. The bail bondsman revoked a bond which allowed us into the home and for the department to obtain a search warrant. Wendy Brazil Montoya and Steven Flores were brought into custody as well as two other individuals on a variety of charges including harboring a fugitive, felony possession of weapons and we will be able to tie Flores to some of the thefts that have been occurring in the area,” said Fresquez.

While executing the search warrants, the department was able to recovery several items that had been reported stolen in recent months. “There were different articles from several burglaries that have been occurring in the area and we will be able to tie them to Flores for further charges. We were glad to get him,” stated Fresquez.

The department is continuing efforts to bring individuals tied to thefts in the area to justice and will continue to host their monthly neighborhood watch meetings the third Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the county annex building.

“Having the community involved has helped us tremendously throughout this entire process. We have had really good conversations and we always want the public to communicate with us. If you see something, say something.”
