Focus on fabulous

Center School Board Secretary Richie Barela and Center Schools Superintendent Carrie Zimmerman present Yuridia Cendejas with the Colorado Association of School Board’s McGuffey Award, for outstanding boardmanship.

CENTER — Yuridia Cendejas, the Board President for Center Schools, has received high recognition from the state and is being honored with the CASB McGuffey Award.

The CASB McGuffey Award honors unique board members who bring committed and passionate service to their board work. Cendejas has served for the last eight years in both the vice president’s and president’s roles. Her calm, sensible approach to decision-making has led to positive changes in Center.

Her heart is focused on what’s best for students and this ensures that the district remains student focused. This recognition is well deserved. She has, and will continue to be, a strong advocate for Center schools.

VIKING STRONG

Brian Ullery has been the CHS wrestling coach for the past 18 years.

Unfortunately, due to some serious health issues, Ullery has decided to step down from the head coaching position so that he can focus on getting himself better.

Ullery was recognized at the October board meeting on his retirement from coaching.

We are very grateful for the years of service Brian has provided to our student-athletes. Brian has a special connection to the children and knows what it takes to get them motivated and performing at the highest level. Brian will continue to work in the district in his current capacity as part of the Student Behavior Management Team, Center Supt. Carrie Zimmerman said. “We know Brian will fight this battle with the same tenacity that he coaches with.

“The Center family is sending him love and support and we are thankful that he is part of our team.”

FABULOUS

TEACHING

AND LEARNING

“Our purpose is to increase academic achievement for all students,” Zimmerman said. “We believe that quality planning, instruction and assessment lead to high achievement for all students.

“Everyone strives for excellence in all they do, every day.

“These are three of our core beliefs that drive our efforts here in Center. You can see these beliefs in action on a regular basis — from the quality instruction that is taking place in the classrooms to the active learning going on in the hallways. Student learning is at the center of all we do.”

Center’s staff took part in a Project Based Learning professional development day, put on by the BUCK institute.

This opportunity was organized by our Director of Instruction, Stephanie Hensley and our Grant Director, Katrina Ruggles.

“This was a fantastic experience afforded to our staff,” Zimmerman said. “They became the students and learned the power of experiential learning with real world activities.

“Our staff is committed to excellence in all they do, every day.” she added. “Center teachers understand the importance of being life-long learners and did a great job participating in the PBL experience.

“They were creative and thoughtful in coming up with unique ideas for ways to use outdoor space that would best benefit the district.”
