Forest Service invites input on proposed land sale southeast of Creede

CREEDE – The Rio Grande National Forest is inviting public comment for an environmental analysis of a proposed land sale to convey 81.25 acres of National Forest System land to Mineral County. The parcel of land is located about 1 1/2 miles southeast of Creede.

Mineral County operates a solid waste disposal facility under a special use permit on eight acres of the land proposed for sale. The permit expires on December 31, 2020 and will not be renewed. The County wished to acquire the parcel of National Forest System land to provide for the current landfill and projected expansion, as well as to provide a dedicated shooting range.
