Gerald R. Jones Sr.

Gerald R. Jones Sr., our beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend went home to be with the Lord, October 10th, 2018 in Cortez, Colorado. He was born September 30, 1935 in Boulder, Colorado to Bob and Maybelle Jones. Gerald (Jerry) serviced in the Navy (1954-57) Korean War era. Upon returning home after servicing his county he worked in the family store. Gerald (Jerry) married in 1964, together they had one daughter and three son’s. Gerald (Jerry) and Delores divorced after spending 35+ years together and remained good friends till his recent departure from this world. The Jones Family moved to the San Luis Valley in the 1940’s, thereafter, the iconic Jones Jewelers Store was opened in Center and branch stores in Monte Vista and Alamosa. Gerald (Jerry) became the second generation Master Jeweler and Master Watch Repairman for the family business. All who knew Gerald (Jerry) said his craft was a natural ability/gift. His ability to work with his hands included building his own home, a helicopter and remodeling his own Model A. He retired from the Jones Jewelry Store in 1999. The iconic store was operated by three generations of Jones’ prior to it’s closing in 2004. The family history is full of memories and rich with love of all the community who supported this amazing man through his service to his county, community and family.

Gerald (Jerry) loved spending time with his family and friends he was devoted to all of them. He is survived by his Ex - Wife: Delores (Leonard)Ford; Children: John (Katrina) Jones and Jodie(Mike) Cyrus, Grandchildren: Christina, Ashley, Sara, Hannah, Matyson, Joshua, Alex, Robbie, Alicen, Ariel and Dominick.

Great-Grandchildren: Alicia, JoJo, Jodeci, Maximus, Jaydin and Phoenix. Brother and Sister: Robert Jones and Marianne Brown . 

Preceded in Death by: His Parents, Bob and Maybelle; Beloved Sons, Gerald and James, Beloved Grand-Daughter, Jacqueline; Beloved Great Grand-Daughter Mia.

The Jones Family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” in his Honor this Friday, October 19, from 4 - 8pm at the Elk Lodge where “Jerry” was a life time member for though of you who wish to join us in his memory. Dinner will be provided. In leu of flowers please forward funds to a local charity in his name: Free Community Christmas Dinner (FCCD) PO Box 1981, Alamosa, Co 81101.
