ALAMOSA — On Saturday, November 20th, La Puente Staff were joined by volunteers and community members to assemble and distribute Thanksgiving Boxes—boxes full of fixings for a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four- including a turkey. At the event 750 boxes were packed and close to 700 boxes ended up being distributed, an effort that exceeded La Puente’s original goal.

The extras will be given out at the pantry this week.

With the holiday season in full swing, it is easy to get caught up in all of the craziness that comes with the preparation that lies ahead. Something that is constantly on peoples’ minds this time of year is food. Sharing a holiday meal with friends and family is a tradition for many of us, yet so many people in the Valley will struggle to get that food on the table this year. One in four people in the San Luis Valley experience food insecurity or hunger. The Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley serves a quarter of the Valley’s population throughout the year, and during the holidays the need is especially great.

If you are interested in getting involved with the Food Bank, please contact Annalisa Baer, Director of the Food Bank Network at 719.589.4567 or email [email protected]
