Gloria Chavez

Gloria Chavez, age 79, beloved wife, mother and grandmother peacefully passed away at her home in Rio Rancho, NM on February 19, 2021.  She was a longtime resident of Antonito, CO.  Gloria came into the world on November 20, 1941, born in Lobatos, CO to Jose Archuleta and Anna (Garcia) Archuleta.  Gloria enjoyed shopping, cleaning house, cooking, tending to her yard and spending time with her family.  Her real passion was her job at the Guadalupe Parish Credit Union where she worked for 37 years.  She started her career at the credit union in 1974 and worked hard to advance to CEO and President in 1977, just three short years later.  She was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board for the State’s Division of Financial Services from 1993 to 2001.  She received the Outstanding Professional of the Year Award through the Convention of the Colorado Credit Union League in 2004 and also in 2009 in recognition of her many accomplishments in the credit union industry.

She directed the strong growth of the credit union.  She served as treasurer of the Board of Directors.  She received numerous awards of appreciation for her dedication and leadership.  She retired in December 2011. 

Gloria is survived by her husband of 57 years Severo Chavez; her children Yvonne (Rick) Roybal, Rodney (Michelle) Chavez, Tamara (Kevin) Gallegos; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Pacheco of Pueblo, CO, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. 

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Jose and Anna Archuleta, sisters Celia Archuleta, Rose Gonzales, Annabell Archuleta, and brother Gilbert Archuleta. 

A rosary will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos, CO on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 7 pm.  Funeral Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 11 am.  Gloria will be laid to rest at Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa, CO.  Please visit our guest book for Gloria at www.FrenchFunerals.com
