Grizzlies earn second straight AVCA Academic Award

LEXINGTON, Ken. - The Adams State University volleyball team once again earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, announced Monday (July 19) by the United States Military Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association. It is the sixth time and second year in a row the Grizzlies have received the honor.

The squad combined for a 3.51 GPA during the 2020-21 academic year. Schools must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher for the academic year in order to be named. A total of 161 Division II programs earned the honor, including 11 RMAC teams.

The girls on the team included Veronica Beltz, Chasey Blach, Hayley Crowther, Shaelyn Walton, Maya Waddington, MacKenzie Swanson, Bailey Schlosser, Anna Huggins, Shannon Mulkey, Natalie Gallegos, Faith Sanchez, Morgan Jorgensen, Saiga Collins, Paige Harlow, Gabriela Patronis and Alexandra MacAskill.

After finishing the 2020-21 campagin with a 2-12 overall record and a 2-11 RMAC record, the Grizzlies will return to the court with a full slate of non-conference and conference matches. They will open the season on September 3 when they head to Canyon, Texas to compete in the 2021 Britkare Lady Buff Classic. A full 2021 schedule can be found here.
