Grizzly athletics welcomes 25 new staff members

ALAMOSA, Colo.-The Adams State University Athletic Department is fully staffed and ready for the 2021-22 athletic season as they welcome 28 new members to the staff. In addition to a new senior athletic director, the department was awarded two grants to help staffing certain departments.

Trey Compton - Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance

Hailing from Mount Prospect, Illinois Trey Compton joins the administration team for Adams State as he will handle compliance for the Grizzlies. He was a Compliance Graduate Assistant at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and is currently pursuing an MBA degree online.

He was a Compiance Intern at UCCS in 2019 after he graduated from Elmhurst University in 2019. He was a baseball player for Elmhurst.

Chandelle Lancaster - Business Manager

Lancaster joins the Grizzlies as the Business Manager after relocating to the San Luis Valley from Texas. In her three years in the San Luis Valley, Lancaster has served as an assistant teacher in Creede, a long-term substitute in the Center Consolidated School District and was a Broker Support Specialist at Friday Health Plans.

Lancaster will be working on day-to-day operations in the athletic department and will act as a liaison for the Grizzly Club and ticket sales.

Hayden Wehe - Head Women’s Golf Coach

A product of Alamosa High School and the San Luis Valley, Hayden Wehe joins the Grizzly staff as a the Head Women’s Golf Coach in 2021-22.

A recent graduate of UCCS, has served in several as a digital marketing assistant for SocialSEO in Colorado Springs a marketing intern at the Broadmoor World Arena, but he served as a Golf Shop Attendant at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa.

Wehe is excited to join the Grizzlies and noted that his “number one passion and hobby is golf” and he ‘loves being around and teaching” the sport.

Edward Ortiz - Head Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach

Ortiz joins the Grizzly staff as the Head Men’s & Women’s Swimming Coach after some successful coaching stints.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity, Adams State University is an athletic program I have always admired and wanted to be apart of,” noted Ortiz. “I would like to thank Katelyn Smith for giving me the opportunity to lead this team to the potential I know they are capable of.”

Ortiz comes to Adams State after serving as the director and head track and field coach at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kan. Before Southwestern, he was the Aquatics Director/Assistant Track and Field & Cross Country Coach at Texas Lutheran University and the director of men’s and women’s Cross Country & Track and Field at Warner Pacific University.

While coaching at Southwestern College, he earned his PhD in educational leadership.
