ALAMOSA — The San Luis Valley will see its first harm reduction program opening on February 21. SHARRP (San Luis Valley Health Access Risk Reduction Project) is a collaboration between the San Luis Valley Area Health Center, Alamosa Department of Health, the Alamosa Board of Health, SLV Behavioral Health Group and Valley Wide Health Systems.

The program will offer services for those who use injection drugs free of charge. Services include HIV and Hepatitis C testing and linkage to care, Naloxone (overdose reversal drug), sterile needles and syringes, safe needle disposal, evaluation for medical insurance eligibility and referral for mental health and substance use treatment, including medication assisted treatment.

The program is located at 2311 Commerce Circle in Alamosa and will be open Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon only, starting on February 21.
