ALAMOSA — Join instructor Nancy Harris for a full-day art workshop on Saturday, October 27. Explore mixed media collage, using paper, paint, found objects and more.

No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring their favorite papers and flat objects to incorporate into their original collages. This adult-only workshop costs $50 and will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Alamosa. For location and to register, contact Nancy at 970-570-9737 or [email protected].

Nancy Harris is a mixed media artist who uses paper, paint and found objects to create her original abstract collages. Harris typically starts with a blank canvas, and then builds up layers of material, such as stained tea bags, acrylic paint and paper, using a gel medium for adhesive. The resulting collages are colorful, complex and playful. What Nancy loves about the collage process is the opportunity to work and experiment with both traditional and non-traditional media. She enjoys the challenge of solving the puzzle that each new piece presents and working out the right arrangement of materials, colors, textures and composition.

Nancy has a Masters in Art History from UC Santa Barbara and has taken many art classes, particularly in mixed media collage. She has taught workshops in collage and intends to offer more workshops in the San Luis Valley. She has shown her work extensively in Southern Colorado. Most recently, she was the featured artist for September at Milagros Coffee House in Alamosa.
