Harvest festival is August 25-26 in Alamosa

ALAMOSA — The 6th Annual Local Foods Coalition LOCAL! Harvest Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25-26 with tours, food and activities for the entire family.

This year’s two-day, family friendly event will include a variety of fun activities to choose from:

LOCAL! Farm Tour, Saturday 9:30 a.m.

- Begin with a tour of the Alamosa Farmers’ Market hosted by Cooking Matters of the San Luis Valley.

- Eat lunch at Boyd Garden with guide Claudia Ebel of VEGI (Valley Educational Garden Initiative).

- Tour Sol Mountain Farm, a small regenerative farm in South Fork. Sol Mountain will be supplying the pork for the RGFP Farm-to-Barbecue dinner.

- Finish by touring the Colorado Farm Brewery followed by a tasting. The Colorado Farm Brewery is supplying the beer for the RGFP Farm-to-Barbecue dinner.

Farm-to-Barbecue Dinner, Saturday 5:30 pm

A fundraiser for the Rio Grande Farm Park, all food for this farm-to-barbecue dinner will be raised at the Park or from local farmers and ranchers. A traditional Matanza as well as southern and Mexican Barbecue styles will be explored. Soul Food Scholar and James Beard award winning author Adrian Miller will be there to share ideas and scholarly information as well as serve as an advisor for this event.
