Heavy rain came through the San Luis Valley June 30 causing more flooding, including a flash flood at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

Patrick Myers, park ranger - interpretation and visitor services, visual information, web and social media, said the flood washed some debris over the road south of the visitor’s center. Because the road had to be closed, some visitors were stranded in the park until about 9 p.m. when the road reopened. However, the mudslide did damage the road.

In Conejos County, the Conejos River overflowed causing water to reach Highway 285. Colorado Highway Department posted signs warning driver of standing water.

Torrential rain fell on La Veta Pass and the Spring Fire scar area causing the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning.
