Helen Grace Pottberg Crowther

Helen Grace Pottberg Crowther was born October 15, 1929, to Fred William Pottberg and Mary Melissa Sego Pottberg. She passed away peacefully August 20, 2021, at her home in Sanford, CO, at the age of 91.

She was born and raised on the family ranch south of Alamosa on the Rio Grande River. She had many good memories of growing up on the ranch with her siblings. She attended Boyd School and was in the fourth grade when the new Boyd School was built. She graduated from Alamosa High School with the class of 1946. Her first job was working for the Alamosa Creamery and then she was a telephone operator for Mountain Bell for 14 years.

She married Jesse Dean Crowther on June 30, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple and they had just celebrated their 60th anniversary when Jesse passed away on October 13, 2010. Jesse and Helen, together with their children, owned and operated a dairy farm for fifty-five years.

Helen loved being outdoors and working with animals, tending chickens and raising calves, and she also loved playing her little red song flute. Helen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved working in all the organizations of the church, but her favorite callings were working with Primary children and the Scouts.

She is survived by her children; daughters Jackie Huffaker of La Jara, Jorie Sue (Larry) Scott of Center, and Shelly (E.B.) Little of Cleburne, Texas; sons Dennis (Debra), Jeffrey (Julie), Leslie (Sheri), and Russell (Kindra) all of Sanford; Twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Myrabelle Pottberg of Olathe, Co., and Wilma Crowther of Grantsville, Utah.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; her sisters Sarah (Dick) Jack, Leona (Ed) Crowther, Elsie (Grant) Sorensen, and Edith (Bill) McDowell; her brothers Al, Fred, & Grant Pottberg; grandson Jack Crowther; great grandchildren Avery Tanner, Olivia Workman; and son-in-law Norval (Bill) Huffaker.

A graveside service was held August 20, 2021, at 6:00 in the evening at the Sanford Cemetery.
