High speed chase ends at Subway in Monte Vista

Shots fired at Center officers

VALLEY– Multiple law enforcement agencies have been involved in a high-speed chase on southbound U.S. 285 this morning with two subjects in custody about 9:25 a.m. after reportedly crashing near the Subway restaurant in Monte Vista. The male and female suspects are being treated by EMS.

According to a report from the Monte Vista Police Department, the Center Police attempted contact with the vehicle there which then led them on a pursuit. A passenger in the reported white Jeep fired numerous rounds at officers from a rifle.

Radio traffic indicated speeds of at least 112 mph with numerous vehicles forced off the road, and possible shots fired at officers. At least one person may have been injured near the intersection of U.S. 285 and U.S. 160 after their vehicle was reportedly struck.

Radio traffic indicated the chase started near Center with Center Police, Colorado State Patrol, Rio Grande Sheriff’s office, Monte Vista Police, Del Norte Police and Alamosa Police participating, and possibly others.

Center PD is the lead agency in the investigation. No officers were injured. This is an active investigation and further updates will come from Center PD.
