Hogue dies in Sunday crash

ALAMOSA — La Jara resident Cayce Hogue, 31, died early Sunday morning, December 16, in a one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 368 (Alamosa County Road 14 S).

A passenger in her vehicle, Derrick Heersink, 29, La Jara, was injured in the crash and was transported to the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Colorado State Patrol responded to the accident at 1:14 a.m. on December 16.

Hogue was driving a 2011 green Jeep Wrangler west on Highway 368 when the vehicle started to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction. The Jeep traveled off the left side of the road before striking a fence. The vehicle then rolled 2 3/4 times before coming to rest on the driver’s side in a field, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Hogue, who was not wearing a seat-belt, was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Heersink, who was wearing a seat-belt, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital in Alamosa.

Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the crash, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation.
