Inmate commits suicide

ALAMOSA– An inmate at the Alamosa County Detention Center has died from “self-sustained, life threatening injuries,” according to a press release from the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Department.

Jerid Thistle, 40, was found during a routine cell check early Tuesday morning. Lifesaving measures were performed by deputies and in-house medical staff before he was transported by ambulance to the SLV Health emergency room where additional treatment was conducted by medical staff, but Thistle was pronounced dead at 8:13 a.m.

The next of kin has been notified by the Alamosa County coroner’s office.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has completed a thorough investigation at the request of Sheriff Robert Jackson.
