ALAMOSA – The interfaith Lenten Luncheons will be held again this year at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 607 Fourth St., Alamosa, beginning March 13.
Luncheons will begin with a brief church service conducted by the church giving the luncheon.
The Lenten luncheons are held at St. Thomas, a central location to the business district, to allow workers to take their lunch hour to attend a 15-20-minute service conducted by the church hosting the luncheon that day. They are scheduled so that participants can be free to go back to work by 1 p.m. Some services are conducted by the pastors of the churches serving the meal, others by church members. The meal, usually consisting of soup and bread with perhaps a salad and dessert, is open to everyone.
The Lenten luncheons will be kicked off at noon March 13 with the Presbyterians conducting the brief religious service followed by a light luncheon.
The March 20 Lenten luncheon remains to be filled. Any denomination willing to take the service and the luncheon should contact St Thomas’ bishop’s warden Erin Smith, 719-589-6161.
The remaining luncheon schedule follows:
*noon, March 27—LDS Church
*April 3—First United Methodist Church
*April 10—Sacred Heart Catholic Church
The luncheon is not held the week of April 14, Holy Week.
