Interfaith Lenten lunches planned

ALAMOSA – The interfaith Lenten Luncheons will be held again this year at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 607 Fourth St., Alamosa, beginning Feb. 21.

Luncheons will begin with brief church service conducted by the church giving the luncheon.

The Lenten luncheons are held at noon at St. Thomas, a central location to the business district, to allow workers to take their lunch hour to attend a 15-20-minute service conducted by the church hosting the luncheon that day. They are scheduled so that participants can be free to go back to work by 1 p.m.

Some services are conducted by the pastors of the churches serving the meal, others by church members.  The meal, usually consisting of soup and bread with perhaps a salad and dessert, is open to everyone.

The Lenten luncheons will be kicked off at noon Feb. 21 with the Seventh-day Adventists conducting the brief religious service followed by a light luncheon.

The remaining luncheon schedule follows:

*Feb. 28—LDS Church

*March 7—First United Methodist Church

*March 14—First Presbyterian Church

*March 21—Roman Catholic Church

The luncheon is not held during Holy Week.
