Ismael A. “Smiley” Chavez

Alamosa resident Ismael A. “Smiley” Chavez, 44, died unexpectedly July 16, 2022 at his home in Alamosa. 

Smiley was born in Taos, New Mexico on December 13, 1977, the son to David A. Chavez and Gloria Martinez Chavez.

Smiley worked for Alcon Construction in Alamosa for many years and enjoyed welding and crane operating.

He was a hard worker.  In his spare time, he liked to go fishing.

Smiley is remembered for his sense of humor and he loved having a good laugh.  He also built many model cars and trucks over the years and liked to shoot guns.

He is survived by his father David A. (Theresa) Chavez of Alamosa; his children Christian Moreno of Sweet Water, TX, Ivin Chavez of Alamosa and Ebony Chavez of Alamosa; his siblings Steve (Melinda) Chavez, Isaac Chavez, Patrisha (Jason) Rogers, Charles Benskin, Jabez (Amilia Cuneo-Chavez) Chavez, and Sarah (Augustas) Quintana, all of Alamosa; as well as numerous extended family including nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of good friends.

Smiley is preceded in death by his mother Gloria Chavez, his brothers Ezequiel and Oscar Chavez, his grandparents Manuel and Rosa Martinez and David Chavez and Estefana Mendoza-Chavez, uncles Daniel Chavez and Leroy DeHerrera.
