Manassa resident Janet Rebecca Gallegos, 70, passed away February 26, 2018 at her home with her loving family at her side. Janet was welcomed into the world on January 28, 1948 in Alamosa, Colorado, the daughter of Guillermo Maestas and Andrea Mondragon Maestas. She was united in marriage to Andrew Gallegos on February 6, 1964 in Capulin, Colorado. Janet devoted her life’s work to caring for her family. She loved cooking, shopping, doing word puzzles, embroidering, listening to Spanish music, and country music; Elvis and oldies were her favorites. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she was able to spend with all her grandchildren, family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Andrew Gallegos of Manassa, CO; daughters Karen (Kirby) Cornum of La Jara, CO; Tammy (Jared) Gallegos of Manassa, CO; grandchildren Krista (Steven) Medina of Manassa, CO; Jared Cornum, Jeremy Cornum both of La Jara, CO; Ashley Cornum of Denver, CO; Miranda Quintana of Alamosa, CO; Tiffany Quintana, Cayden Gallegos both of Manassa, CO; great-grandchildren Andrew Medina, Kaleb Medina, Cameron Medina, Darion Medina all of Manassa, CO; sister Patsy (Gabby) Archuleta of Denver, CO; brother Dennis Maestas of Espanola, NM. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents Guillermo and Andrea Maestas, and two brothers Alan Maestas and Johnny Maestas.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Capulin Cemetery. The care of arrangements have been placed and trusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
