Jeffrey Bolling Schwarz

Jeffrey Bolling Schwarz, a.k.a. “The Great Bodine,” left us and his body behind on June 27, 2021.  He had been stoically living with CKD for more than 7 years.  Jeff grew up the youngest of 3 brothers in East St. Louis, becoming a champion pole vaulter in high school.  In 1977 he moved to the Villa Grove area and called the Mysterious Valley home ever since.  He worked as a lifeguard, farmhand, cafe cook, and journeyman roofer.  Many of his roofs are still protecting homes, businesses, and organizations throughout the Valley.  He loved the outdoors, and pursued cliff diving, downhill skiing, slalom (water) skiing, pyrotechnics, fishing, hunting, beer, and camping.  Jeff was very handy- building, fabricating, and repairing.  He dug classic rock and roll (Jethro Tull), classic movies (3 stooges, Bruce Lee, Clint Eastwood), and auto racing (Pikes Peak Hill Climb and the drags).  Jeff was macho yet caring, and he was intrigued with much of the natural and modern world.  He was a stepdad, mentor, and friend to Jeremy.  Jeff was a partner and friend to Suzanne.  There will be a memorial October 16, 2021 (contact Suzanne at 9-6723).  We will remember him as someone who focused on the humorous and fun side of life.  As he would say, “don’t sweat the small sh!%, and it’s all small sh!%.”
