Jesse Griego

ALAMOSA — Mr. Jesse Griego, age 71, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully on September 19, 2020, at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He was born on May 26, 1949, in Hernandez, New Mexico to Elias and Valentina Griego.  He grew up in Alamosa, Colorado and attended Alamosa High School. 

Jesse was a three-year veteran of the Korean War. He served as an Imjin Scout, Sharpshooter. He entered the Army as Rank E-1 and was honorably discharged in April of 1971 as Rank E-4 from Ft Lewis Washington.  Jesse was awarded an Expeditionary Medal for his service.  Following his service in the Army, Jesse spent 25 years working for US West.  He was also a member of the American Legion and Commander at the VFW.

He was strong to the very end.  He was a special friend.  He stood tall and sure for his family.  His strength and his love will remain a part of his legacy.  Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Jesse left this earth with strength and dignity and will be missed by the many people that love him.

Jesse is preceded in death by his Father, Elias Griego Sr. and his Mother, Valentina Griego; as well as siblings, Sophie Martinez, Mary Quirco, Elias Griego Jr., Pete Griego, Cornelio Griego, Danny Griego, Frankie Griego, Gloria Griego, Valentino Griego Sr. and Tony Griego. Jesse leaves behind his children, Jessica Schwertfeger, Erica Griego, Jesse (Jesus) Griego and Amanda Ramirez; grandchildren, Brenin Griego, Logan Debuano, Justin Rael, Domnique Rael and Kaylian Ramirez; brothers, Robert Griego, Charlie Griego (Janice), Eddie Griego (Cindy) and Joe Griego (Donna).

A Rosary is to be held on October 2nd at 10 am with Mass to follow at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa, Colorado.

Please join us in celebrating Jesse’s life at the American Legion following the services at 1 pm.
