Joan Priscilla Dimmitt

Joan Priscilla Dimmitt (86 years old) resident of County Manor Senior Living Community in Sartell, MN passed away on October 27, 2017 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN surrounded by family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra Lynn (Ron) Pepper of Nashville, TN and Natalie Joan (Timothy) Matthewson of Clear Lake, MN; grandchildren, Eric Steele Pepper of Nashville, TN, Garon Joseph Atencio of Valley Village, CA and Jordyn Lyn Pepper of Nashville, TN; Sister, Shirley Bogren of Columbus, IN; niece, Kris Bogren of Raleigh, NC; and nephew, Erik Bogren of Normal, IL; and various extended family.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Glenn Walter Dimmitt; Parents, Arthur Joseph Voorhees Durbin and Evelyn Louise (Marriner) Durbin; and various aunts and uncles.

Joan was born in Plattsburgh, New York on November 5, 1930.  Joan attended business school and had a career in fashion buying and retail.  This was evident by her fashion sense.  She married Glenn Dimmitt on June 11, 1960.  Not long after the two were married Glenn decided to go to seminary and become an ordained pastor with the Presbyterian Church.  Joan was well prepared to be a minister’s wife as her father, Arthur, was also a pastor in the Presbyterian church.  Joan and Glenn served four churches over 35 years. Which included Bloomfield, Kentucky, Lake Luzerne, New York 1965-1969, Sandusky, Michigan 1969-1978 and Alamosa, Colorado 1978-1996.

Joan was fortunate to live various places during her lifetime including New York, California, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky, Colorado and Minnesota; this may be the reason that she loved to travel.  Her motto was, “Bloom where you are planted.”   For many years Joan was involved with Presbyterian Women USA and for several years she was on the Presbyterian Women PCUSA Board. Joan sang with many church choirs, she performed solos and in her retirement years was part of The Villages Voices at Village at Skyline Senior Community in Colorado Springs.

Joan was known for her spunky attitude, her sense of style and love of people.  She did not know a stranger.
