CHAMA — Lifelong Chama resident Jose Moises Samuel “Sam” Sanchez, 76, departed this life on March 7, 2021 at Penrose Medical Center in Colorado Springs. Sam was welcomed into the world on June 4, 1944 in Chama, Colorado, the beloved son of J.A. Lucas Sanchez and Bersila Vialpando Sanchez. He worked and retired from the Costilla County Road and Bridge Department as a heavy equipment operator. On his free time Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, being outdoors and going hunting. He liked to make sure he kept himself busy. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife Linda Sanchez of Chama, CO; son Patrick (Rene) Sanchez of San Pablo, CO; 4 grandchildren Patrick Herrera, Justine Sanchez, Shawn Ornelas, Geno Rivera, 8 great-grandchildren, brothers Lucas Ted Sanchez of Chama, CO; Johnny (Sandy) Sanchez, Joe (Amelia) Sanchez both of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Matilda Sanchez of Denver, CO. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents Lucas and Bersila Sanchez, one son Sam Sanchez Jr., brother Levi Sanchez and one nephew Brian Sanchez.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 AM also at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery.
