Katherine Nigro-Mondragon

ALAMOSA — Katherine Nigro-Mondragon of Alamosa went Home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2019. After 101 years and seven months of being blessed with a beautiful life. Through her love she blessed those around her. Katherine passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side.

Katherine was the second of seven children of John Nigro and Maria Mechetti-Nigro, who were originally from Castella de la Monte, Italy. The family settled in Fort Garland, Colorado, and Katherine was born there on April 1, 1918.

On August 16, 1948 Katherine married her sweetheart Charlie Mondragon Jr. from San Luis, Colorado. Together they had four children, raised their family, operated the San Luis Company and were blessed with 53 wonderful years of marriage.

Katherine was an exceptional woman, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who found pleasure through her gift of being a gracious and talented person on many levels of her life. Devoted to praying the rosary many times daily, Katherine put her faith in God and his holy messengers Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini and Saint Anthony de Padua.

She will live on through her many gifts of love that she shared as a Mother.  Marie (Arnie) Valdez of San Luis, CO; Carol (Michael) Mondragon-Cavaliere of Alamosa, CO; Kathy (John) Mondragon-Rickey of Santa Fe, NM; son Charles Mondragon III of San Luis, CO; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother John Nigro of Denver, CO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Dominic Nigro, Angie Weible, Fred Nigro, Pete Nigro and Bobbie Nigro.

There will be a viewing on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 6:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa followed by a 7:00 PM Recitation of the Rosary. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, November 8, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa.  Interment will follow at the Sangre de Cristo Parish Cemetery in San Luis, CO.
