Keeping hope alight

Participants in La Puente’s annual HOPE (Homeless Outreach Prevention & Education) Week candlelight vigil gather at the shelter on State Avenue in Alamosa on Wednesday night before lighting candles and journeying downtown to Sacred Heart Church for music and refreshments. This was one of the events during HOPE Week (September 25-30) drawing attention and providing education around homelessness in the community. Events continue today, Thursday, with “stone soup” at the Alamosa Elementary School and conclude Sunday with a free barbecue and open house for the community at the shelter, 913 State Ave., Alamosa, from 12-2 p.m.
