Kidnapping suspect arrested

ALAMOSA — A kidnapping incident ended with one arrest and two victims rescued unharmed on Friday near the Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve highway exit.

According to the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, a female contacted the Colorado State Patrol Dispatch Center shortly before 1 p.m. on Friday, March 29, and said she had been kidnapped in California and was in the Alamosa area.

Law enforcement officers were dispatched to the area of Highway 150 and the Highway 160 junction where a Colorado State Patrol trooper found the female who had made the initial call. She told authorities that an armed male suspect still had a second female victim with him.

Law enforcement officers located and contacted the suspect in that area in a newer Toyota pickup and took him into custody without incident. He faces felony charges.

Another female allegedly being held against her will was also in the pickup and was recovered unharmed.

Law enforcement mutual aid consisting of Colorado State Patrol, Alamosa Police Department, Alamosa Sheriff’s Office, Sand Dunes Park Rangers as well as Costilla Sheriff’s Office and Blanca Police Department assisted in the location and apprehension of the male suspect.

The Alamosa County Victim Advocates also assisted.

Names are not being released at this time as this incident is still being investigated.  The sheriff’s office is also in contact with the FBI as this incident crossed several state lines.
