ALAMOSA — La Puente has been sponsoring events all week during Hunger Education Week. Sunday, they hosted their annual CROP Walk event at the Alamosa Senior Center in Cole Park.

This year, La Puente was able to raise more than $2,000 for hunger relief efforts and over 200 community members joined the fight to end hunger by participating.

The ASU football team boasted the largest group with 79 walkers and the Alamosa First United Methodist Church contributed the largest donation.

The walk covered 5 km (3.1 miles) and allowed participants to see several of La Puente’s hunger relief efforts including the community meal at the shelter, community garden and food bank.

The event also included education and a discussion about hunger-related issues that occur not just in the San Luis Valley, but also throughout the world. After the event, attendees enjoyed

live music by Maggie Rains and the Crooked Keys and indulged in a potato and chili bar while engaging with other community members.

CROP Walk kicked off the week-long community education series of events called “Hunger Education Week” which will see five events this week.

Throughout this week, La Puente will be educating the community on the reality of hunger and, most importantly, how everyone can contribute to ending this injustice.

La Puente would like to thank the community and all the participants. They would like to extend a special thank you to the senior center for their partnership and support.

La Puente invites all individuals to participate in the events offered this week.
