ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team was looking to start a new winning streak on Tuesday as it hosted Ignacio at the AHS stadium.

The Lady Mean Moose were successful as they defeated the Lady Bobcats by a score of 5-0.

“My girls really dominated the whole game,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “We struggled a little bit with finishes but overall it looks good and we’re ready to take on Cortez.”

Alamosa’s first goal came in the 10th minute as Leah Higareda took a pass from Jayden Wubben and put the ball into the goal.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

Wubben accounted for the next goal six minutes into the second half. Lexany Heredia was credited with the assist.

Heredia scored the third goal just six minutes later with Kennedy Hillis getting the assist.

Araceli Molina scored in the 68th minute with Heredia getting her second assist of the game.

Noemi Lemus wrapped up the scoring in the 76th minute as Wubben recorded her second assist of the game.

Alamosa outshot Ignacio 21-3. Emmy Tibbits stopped all three shots on goal she faced. It was the fifth shutout of the season for Tibbitts.

The Lady Moose also had six corner kicks compared to just two for the Lady Bobcats.

Alamosa (6-5-1, 3-1-1 Intermountain League) will host Montezuma-Cortez on Friday. A win will give the Lady Mean Moose the league title and an automatic berth into the Class 3A state playoffs.

“That will be for the league championship,” coach Wubben said. “If we win, we win league.”

Game time is at 11 a.m. at the AHS stadium.
