CENTER – The Center High School volleyball team was defeated by Buena Vista Thursday at the CHS gym.

The Lady Demons swept the match in three sets. The scores were 25-19, 25-14 and 25-14.

The Lady Vikings scored the first point of the first set on a service ace by Ximena Miranda. Then Buena Vista scored seven straight points for a 7-1 lead.

Center scored two straight points, but Buena Vista scored three in a row for a 10-3 advantage.

The Lady Vikings then got hot and went on a 6-1 run to reduce their deficit to 11-9. The Lady Demons, however, scored three consecutive points to increase their lead to 14-9.

Center scored four of the next five points to pull within 15-13. But Buena Vista went on a 9-4 run to expand the margin to 24-17.

The Lady Vikings closed to within 24-19, but the Lady Demons scored the final point to win the first set 25-19.

Buena Vista opened the second set by scoring the first two points, but Center scored three straight points to take a 3-2 edge.

The Lady Demons regained the lead at 4-3, however, the Lady Vikings went on a 3-1 run for a 6-5 lead.

Buena Vista answered by scoring the next three points.

The teams then exchanged sideouts before the Lady Demons closed out the set with a 10-2 rally to take a 25-14 victory.

Buena Vista again took a 2-0 lead to begin the third set. It then gradually built upon the lead and had an 18-6 advantage.

Center attempted a comeback as it closed to within 23-14. The Lady Demons, however, scored the final two points to win the set and match 25-14.

Miranda had six assists to lead the Lady Vikings and Arazeliz Garcia had five. They both had one service ace.

Center (3-5, 0-2 Southern Peaks League) will travel to Salida on Sept. 21. The first match begins at 4:30 p.m.
