Lands to celebrate 60th anniversary on April 2

SANFORD — Jim and Lois Land of Sanford will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 2. A small gathering of local family and friends is planned.

Both Jim and Lois graduated from Brighton High School in 1955. They were married in 1958 and farmed in the Brighton area through 1976. At that time they purchased a ranch between Sanford and La Sauses in the San Luis Valley where they lived, farmed and raised cattle.

Jim owned and operated Landmark Repair, a diesel repair business near La Jara. Lois worked for many years as assistant director and director of the Conejos County Housing Authority. They jointly served as Sunday School leaders for many years, and Jim served as a church deacon for many years as well.

They have three children, Tamra Garner, Alamosa, Sandia (Keith) Calkin, Alamosa, and Vincent (Debra) Land, Scotland, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Seth Roelker (deceased), Katie (Merlin) Ginther, Alamosa, Joel Garner, Queen Creek, Arizona, Isaac Garner, Alamosa, Cuyler Calkin, Wichita, Kansas, Jocelyn (Frank) Marksberry, Alamosa, Ryan (Brooke) Calkin, Woodland, Washington, Dustin (Hollie) Land, Colorado Springs, Stacy Land, Colorado Springs and Tye (Theresa) Land, Colorado Springs; and 10 great grandchildren, Zoe and Megan Flores, Chase and Breck Calkin, Jessica and Caylie and Gauge Land, Tru Land, and Shilah and Carolina Land.
