Latest MaxPreps track and field rankings

ALAMOSA – Several high school track and field athletes are among the leaders in their respective events in the latest MaxPrep rankings as of last weekend’s meets.

The Top 18 in each event in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A and 2A will qualify for the state meet in May. In Class 1A, the Top 9 in sprints, hurdles and sprint relays will advance to state as well as the Top 12 in distances, field events and the 4x800-meter relay.

Class 3A

Alamosa

After winning the high jump at last weekend’s Salida Invitational and also establishing a personal best, Brant Jackson is tied for the fifth best height at 6-0. Other ranked Mean Moose include Jaxon Morgan, who is sixth in the pole vault at 11-3, Isaac Higareda, who is ninth in the 3,200 in 10:15.71 and 18th in the 1,600 in 4:47.48, Chase Smith, who is 15th in the 300 hurdles in 43.66, Jayr Almeida, who is 16th in the 800 in 2:07.71, Jesse Maestas, who is 17th in the pole vault at 9-3, and Damien Orozco, who is tied for 18th in the high jump at 5-8.

Alamosa also has the second-best time in the boys 4x800 in 8:38.56, and it is ninth in the 4x400 in 3:37.64.

For the Lady Moose, Aani Hardesty is ranked in five events. She is third in the 300 hurdles in 47.91, 12th in the 400 in 1:01.73, 14th in the 100 hurdles in 17.89,  16th in the 200 in 27.80 and 17th in the 100 in 13.41.

Other Alamosa girls who are ranked include Lia Castillo, who is tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-0, Madeline Castillo, who is sixth in the 3,200 in 12:02.43, Sarah DeLaCerda, who is seventh in the 1,600 in 5:24.46 and 18th in the 800 in 2:29.84, and Emily Melgoza, who is 14th in the shot put at 31-6 and 14th in the discus at 98-3.

The Lady Moose are ranked in two relays. They are third in the 4x800 in 10:21.72 and ninth in the 4x400 in 4:24.08.

Class 2A

Centauri

Centauri also has several ranked boys individuals and the Falcons are led by Mason Claunch, who has the best time in the 100 in 11.19. Other ranked Centauri boys include Mason Sowards, who is fourth in the triple jump at 40-3, 11th in the 300 hurdles in 45.04 and 14th in the 110 hurdles in 18.74. Deven Brady, is tied for eighth in the 100 in 11.70, Austin Stockebrand is eighth in the 110 hurdles in 17.88 , tied for 12th in the high jump at 5-8 and 13th in the 300 hurdles in 45.66. Troy Sowards and Ben Tailleur are also tied for 12th in the high jump at 5-8, and Ben Tailleur is also 18th in the long jump at 18-8.

The Falcons also have the best time in two relays. They have a time of 44.27 in the 4x100 and 1:39.49 in the 4x200. 1:31.49. Centauri is also eighth in the 4x400 in 3:49.52.

For the Lady Falcons, McKenna Guymon is fourth in the 300 hurdles in 52.22, Caitlin Creel is ninth in the shot put at 32-1 ½, and Hannah Guymon is 18th in the triple jump at 29-9 ¼.

The Centauri girls are ranked in three relays. They are fourth in the 4x800 in 11:13.67, 13th in the 4x200 in 1:59.26 and 17th in the 4x100 in 55.94.

Center

Center has only one ranked individual in Alexis Varela, who is seventh in the 100 in 13.43.

Del Norte

Del Norte has only one ranked male athlete in Riley Orr, who is tied for fifth in the pole vault at 10-6.

Two Lady Tigers are ranked. Kenzie Smith and Shelby Van Zalinge are both tied for 15th in the pole vault at 7-0.

Monte Vista

Monte Vista has no ranked athletes at this time.

Sargent

Sargent also has one ranked individual in Bailey Asbell, who is ninth in the 300 hurdles in 54.15 and 15th in the 100 hurdles in 18.80.

Class 1A

Antonito

Antonito currently has no ranked athletes.

Creede

Creede has not yet participated in a meet this year.

Moffat

Moffat also has one ranked individual in Kodiak Reigel, who is third in the 300 hurdles in 46.86.

Sanford

Sanford has several ranked athletes. For the boys team, Gauge Lewis is first in the 100 in 11.74, Ren Canty is sixth in the 1,600 in 5:16.74 and ninth in the 800 in 2:21.52, and McCray Larsen is tied for eighth in the high jump at 5-6.

The Indians are ranked in two boys relays. They are eighth in the 4x400 in 4:04.24 and ninth in the 4x100 in 48.64.

For the Lady Indians, Erica Miller is fourth in the 400 in 1:05.90, and Holly McDaniel is eighth in the 300 hurdles in 56.50.

The Sanford girls are fifth in the 800 sprint medley in 2:05.40.

Sangre de Cristo

For the Sangre de Cristo boys, William Wilson is ninth in the 3,200 in 12:27.23.

The Thunderbirds are 11th in the 4x800 in 10:54.59.

The Lady Thunderbirds have two ranked athletes in Peyton Metz, who is third in the 100 in 13.75, and Presley Wilson, who is 12th in the discus at 84-8.

Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande has no ranked athletes at this time.

This week

It will be another busy weekend for local teams. Today, Centauri, Center, Del Norte, Sanford, Sangre de Cristo and Sierra Grande will be in Swink for the Ray Headley Invitational, and Moffat will be in Colorado Springs for the Mitchell Invitational.

On Saturday, Alamosa is in Denver for the Mullen Invitational, Antonito and Del Norte are in Ignacio for the Abel Velasquez Invitational, Moffat is at the CSU Pueblo Invitational, and Monte Vista is at the Pueblo West Invitational.
