Latest MaxPreps track and field rankings

ALAMOSA – Several high school track and field athletes from the San Luis Valley continue to be in contention to qualify for their respective state tournaments according to the MaxPreps rankings as of last weekend’s action.

The Top 18 athletes in each event in Classes 5A, 4A, 3A, and 2A will qualify for state. In Class 1A, the Top 9 in sprints, hurdles and sprint relays, the Top 10 in field events, and the Top 12 in distances and distance relays will qualify.

Class 3A

Alamosa

Alamosa currently has six male athletes in contention for qualifying for state. Leading the Mean Moose is Isaac Higareda, who is fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 9:48.41 and 15th in the 1,600 in 4:37.44.

Other Alamosa boys in the rankings include Jaxon Morgan, who is sixth in the pole vault at 11-5, Brant Jackson, who is ninth in the high jump at 6-1, Jayr Almeida, who is 13th in the 800 in 2:01.75, Chase Smith, who is 13th in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 42.60 seconds, and Mario Villlaba, who is 15th in the 3,200 in 10:01.15.

Alamosa is also ranked in three boys relays. It is seventh in the 4x400 in 3:31.86, 10th in the 4x800 in 8:38.56, and 15th in the 4x100 in 44.96.

The Lady Mean Moose are led by Aani Hardesty, who is ranked in five events. She is second in the 300 hurdles in 46.44, fifth in the 200 in  26.39, sixth in the 100 in 12.85, 12th in the 400 in 59.97, and 16th in the 100 hurdles in 17.33.

Six more Alamosa girls are ranked. Sarah DeLaCerda is fourth in the 3,200 in 11:17.40, 11th in the 1,600 in 5:18.86, and 14th in the 800 in 2:22.57. Lia Castillo is 10th in the high jump at 5-1 and 15th in the 800 in 2:24.38, Elizabeth McQuitty is 13th in the 3,200 in 11:54.93, Autumn McQuitty is 15th in the 3,200 in 11:59.05, Emily Melgoza is 16th in the shot put at 32-8, and Madeline Castillo is 18th in the 3,200 in 12:02.43.

The Lady Mean Moose are ranked in four girls relays. They are fifth in the 4x800 in 10:15.97, sixth in the 4x400 in 4:12.35, seventh in the 4x100 in 51.65, and 13th in the 800 sprint medley in 1:57.68.

Class 2A

Centauri

Centauri currently has six boys in the rankings and it is led by Mason Claunch, who is tied for first in the 100 in 11.04, third in the 200 in 23.06 and third in the 400 in 50.97.

Other ranked Falcons include Deven Brady, who is fifth in the 100 in 11.34 and 16th in the 200 in 23.55, Troy Sowards, who is tied for fifth in the high jump at 6-1, Mason Sowards, who is ninth in the triple jump at 40-3 and 14th in the 300 hurdles in 43.58, Austin Stockebrand, who is tied for 12th in the high jump at 5-10, 12th in the 110 hurdles in 17.37 and 15th in the 300 hurdles in 43.60, and Ben Tailleur, who is 14th in the long jump at 19-9 and 16th in the triple jump at 39-6 ½.

Centauri is ranked in three boys relays including having the best time in the 4x100 in 44.01 and the 4x200 in 1:31.49. The Falcons are also 16th in the 4x400 in 3:43.22.

The Lady Falcons have two ranked individual athletes. McKenna Guymon is 12th in the 300 hurdles in 51.98, and Tayte Hostetter is 17th in the 800 in 2:38.27.

Centauri is ranked in four girls relays. It is seventh in the 4x800 in 11:03.61, 12th in the 4x200 in 1:53.48, 18th in the 4x100 in 54.32, and 18th in the 4x400 in 4:36.17.

Center

Center has only one ranked athlete in Alexis Varela, who is eighth in the 100 in 13.34.

None of the Viking boys are currently ranked.

Del Norte

Del Norte has two ranked boys. Riley Orr is seventh in the pole vault at 11-8, and Michael Laymon is 10th in the high jump at 5-11.

For the Lady Tigers, Aubriana Peerman is 13th in the discus at 102-7, and Shelby Van Zalinge is tied for 15th in the pole vault at 8-0.

Monte Vista

Monte Vista has only one ranked male athlete in Alex Felix, who is ninth in the discus at 135-10 and 16th in the shot put at 43-4.

The Pirates are ranked in two boys relays. They are 11th in the 4x100 in 45.57 and 11th in the 4x200 in 1:35.80.

None of the Lady Pirates are currently ranked.

Sargent

Sargent has one ranked athlete in Bailey Asbell, who is fifth in the 300 hurdles in 49.79 and 10th in the 100 hurdles in 17.59.

Class 1A

Sanford

Sanford has three boys currently in the rankings. Kelton Gartrell is first in the 100 in 11.35 and tied for sixth in the 200 in 24.05, Gauge Lewis is second in the 100 in 11.46 and third in the 200 in 23.64, and Ren Canty is seventh in the 1,600 in 5:00.11, eighth in the 3,200 in 11:04.52 and 10th in the 800 in 2:13.72.

The Indians are ranked in three boys relays. They have the best time in the 4x100 in 45.38 and the 4x200 in 1:33.65. They are also ninth in the 4x800 in 9:38.46.

Four Lady Indians are in the rankings. Haley Faucette is fourth in the 400 in 1:02.93 and 10th in the triple jump at 32-2, Erica Miller is fifth in the 200 in 1:03.23, Holly McDaniel is sixth in the 100 hurdles in 18.07, and Asia Caldon is 11th in the 1,600 in 6:198.92.

Sanford is ranked in all five girls relays. It is first in the 4x800 in 11:26.36, third in the 800 sprint medley in 1:58.45, fourth in the 4x400 in 4:31.96, fifth in the 4x200 in 1:56.32, and eighth in the 4x100 in 54.64.

Sangre de Cristo

Sangre de Cristo has one ranked individual in Peyton Metz, who is fifth in the girls 100 in 13.44.

None of the Thunderbird boys are in the rankings.

Antonito, Creede, Moffat and Sierra Grande currently have no ranked athletes.
