Latest On the Mat high school wrestling rankings

ALAMOSA – Tim Yount released his seventh On the Mat high school wrestling rankings last Friday prior to last weekend’s competitions.

Class 3A

In Class 3A, both of the San Luis Valley teams in that classification are in the Top 10. Alamosa is ranked seventh, while Centauri is eighth.

Eaton is the top-ranked team, followed by Mullen, Brush, Severance, Fort Lupton, Gunnison, Alamosa, Centauri, Valley and Pueblo Central.

Alamosa

The Mean Moose have eight ranked wrestlers and they are led by Dempsey Gibbs who is second at 120 pounds. Also ranked are Kyler Liddell who is third at 150, Dario Valdez who is fourth at 126, James Sanchez who is sixth at 285, Dyson Woodward who is seventh at 132, Jeremiah DeLaCerda who is 10th at 106, Anthony Griego who is 10th at 113, and Sage Rockcastle who is 13th at 138.

Centauri

The Falcons have six ranked competitors and they have two who are ranked in their weight divisions in Erik Mestas (175) and Josh Polkowske (165). Also ranked are Riley Valdez who is sixth at 120, Matthew Salazar who is eighth at 106, Aundre Chavez who is 11th at 113, and Parker Buhr who is 12th at 138.

Class 2A

None of the local Class 2A schools are in the Top 10.

Wray tops the rankings, followed by Meeker, Cedaredge, Mancos, Rocky Ford, Buena Vista, Trinidad, St. Mary’s, Fowler and Wiggins.

Center

The Vikings have seven individuals in the rankings. The list includes Jordan Duran who is fifth at 106 pounds, Francisco Villa who is sixth at 113, Martin Palma who is seventh at 157, Jesus Valadez who is seventh at 165, Aaron Valadez who is ninth at 144, Andre Meraz who is  12th at 150, and Lorenzo Trujillo who is 12th at 138.

Monte Vista

Six Pirates are in the individual rankings. This includes DeAngelo Archuleta who is third at 144, Kevin Cisneros who is fifth at 138, Damian Lopez who is fifth at 132, Jaxon Martinez who is eighth at 175, Matthew Rodriguez who is 11th at 106, and Jacob Pacheco who is 15th at 150.

Antonito, Del Norte, Mountain Valley, Sargent and Sierra Grande/Centennial have no wrestlers in the rankings.

Girls rankings

The girls high school wrestling rankings were also released last Friday.

Chatfield is ranked first, followed by Discovery Canyon, Loveland, Pomona, Vista Ridge, Grand Junction Central, Eaglecrest, Bennett Severance, Doherty, Calhan, Mead, and Fort Lupton.

Two Alamosa girls are in the rankings as Sarah DeLaCerda is third at 110 pounds, and Alexa Adolf is eighth at 145.
