Lawrence M. “Larry” Basky

ALAMOSA — Lawrence M. “Larry” Basky, age 77, of Plymouth, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday (March 19, 2021) at his home with his family by his side.

He was born on September 3, 1943 in Ottawa, IL, son of the late Matthew and Jeanie (McGill) Basky.

Larry graduated from Marquette High School. He earned his Bachelor Degree at Pittsburg State University and a Masters of Art from Adams State University.

He was a teacher, football coach, and artist both in Wichita, KS and Alamosa, CO. Larry opened Basky Gallery in Creede, CO and later in Plymouth, WI.

On July 27, 1991, he married Jo Ann Kargl in Shallow Creek, outside of Creede, CO.

Known to many as a “Renaissance Man”, Larry lived life passionately and prolifically. Inspired by the great outdoors, he blessed us with his engaging works of art and tales of his lifetime of adventure. He enjoyed canoeing, fishing, cooking, reading, sports, and music. As a mentor, Larry left a lasting impression on many aspiring artists and athletes.

Survivors include his loving wife, JoAnn; three children, Holly Basky of Fayetteville, AR, Matthew (Charla) Basky of Denver, Co, Ellyn Basky of New York, NY; four grandchildren, Quintin, Madison, Ethan, and Ryder; and sister, Carol of Dalzell, IL.

He is also survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private services were held at his home to celebrate the wonderful life Larry lived.
