Leopoldo Anthony Gurule

San Luis resident Leopoldo Anthony Gurule, 84, passed away December 29, 2021 at Penrose Medical Center in Colorado Springs with his loving wife of 55 years and his family by his side. Leo was born on September 26, 1937 in Romeo, Colorado, the son of Leopoldo Gurule and Roselia DeHerrera Gurule. After he graduated high school,he  went on to enlist and serve in the United States Army. He served for seven years. After he completed his duties in the service, he went on to work as a miner. Leo was a kind and compassionate person who loved to go gambling, doing work on the farm and spending time with his family and friends.

He will live on through his wife Juanita E. Gurule of San Luis, CO, sons Victor Emry Gurule of San Diego, CA; Gabriel Joseph Gurule of San Luis, CO, sisters Edna (Rudy) Vigil of Denver, CO, Sarita (Frank) Martinez of Grand Junction, CO, brothers Joe P. Gurule of Pueblo, CO; Alfirio Gurule, Eloy Gonzales, Harvey Henry all of San Luis, CO; brother-in-law Leroy Gonzales of San Luis, CO. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents Leopoldo and Roselia Gurule, sisters Marina Alberico, Elaine Patterson, Ledy Mondragon,  brothers Frank Gurule, Ernest Gurule and Luis Vigil.

Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis. A Celebration of Life will follow at 10:30 AM also at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church with full military honors. Inurnment will be held at a later date. If attending services, please wear a mask.
