Letter to the editor: Cuddling chickens could have consequences

Having recently written a Rabbitbrush Rambler column about eggs, I want to add that I just read a newspaper item about backyard chickens and other poultry like ducks and geese.

Poultry owners, especially children, are being warned about diseases liked dreaded salmonella that can easily be transmitted by contact with those nice, soft feathers. Even fleas don’t sound very nice. So, don’t allow the chickens inside a house or cuddle them outdoors either.

I’ll add another caution about house pets. Once when I was a youngster, my arm was infected with ringworm after snuggling an aunt’s indoor-outdoor cat. Not nice.
