Letter to the editor: Noffsker would be great commissioner

This letter is in support of John Noffsker for Rio Grande County Commissioner.

I’ve known Mr. Noffsker and his wife, Linda, for over a decade, when they joined the Presbyterian Church.

Because of the era in which he grew up, and his time in the military, John may appear to be a bit tough, but he is a man who quietly, humbly gives to others in many ways. I personally know of many times in which he has reached into his own pocket to help out folks who’ve found themselves to be down and out.

John and I share an Air Force background. I’ve worked with him on various church committees and recognize him as a man who is not only passionate and compassionate about his role as a pastor, but understands leadership and is a man who does not back away from tough decisions. As a parishioner, I view him as approachable and understanding of people’s needs. He genuinely connects with folks individually; when he listens, it’s as if they’re the only person in the room. I’ve always been impressed by the fact that when John gives a sermon, he doesn’t talk down to us, but talks to us.

I’ve spent many fun times at the Noffsker ranch. His wit and sense of humor always add to the moment. Likewise, I’ve witnessed a man who is a hard worker, dedicated and committed to the people with whom he works.

Long before John considered running for county commissioner, we had many conversations about issues affecting everyday down-to-earth folks and the needs of this county. While he has shared his background in town administration, economic development and tourism, he also understands the need to focus on the grassroots issues that need to be addressed at the core of our community.

Sincerely,

Jae Gibson
