Letter to the editor: Support book cooperative

A courageous and inspired group of community members has formed the Narrow Gauge Book Co-Op in an effort to bring back our only book store in the Valley! Like the Monte Vista Co-Op there will be members who contribute regularly to help keep the doors open. The Co-Op will be largely run by volunteers and will have used and new books. The Book Co-Op will be vital to the community with work stations, reading chairs, and a kid’s corner where children can come and explore the world of books. There will be regular community events including story time, book readings, and book clubs for various ages. A viable book store relays an important message to our youth on the significance of reading to enlighten one’s life.

But we will need your help. We have 24 more days to raise the start-up funds. There will be a Fund raising Kick-off on May 4th at the book store (602 Main Street, Alamosa) from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Come enjoy live music, local foods, and great company and see how you can support the Narrow Gauge Book Co-Op.   For more information find us at www.narrowgaugebooks.com or to contribute, go to Indiegogo.com and search for “Narrow Gauge.” Help save our community bookstore and shop local!

Thanks much,

Cathy Morin
