Letter to the editor: Thanks for supporting 'Find Your Village'

On behalf of the Valley-Wide WIC Program, I would like to thank all who helped to make the “Find Your Village” breastfeeding celebration at Cole Park a fun and successful event on August 16. In addition to the WIC Program, other programs from Valley-Wide Health Systems shared their information including Nurse Family Partnership, Alamosa Family Medical Center, Physical Therapy, Dental, Reach Out & Read and Bright By Three.

Thank you to the many community partners sharing information about their programs including Cooking Matters, La Leche League, Early Childhood Council, Healthy Communities, Goal Academy, Alamosa Public Library, Alamosa County Public Health, La Llave, KRZA and the Valley Courier.

Children and adults alike enjoyed making slime and playing games as well as receiving lots of great information and freebies at the booths. We had some fantastic prizes donated including a 3-month Family Pass for four from the Hooper Pool, an electric breast pump from Belle Ma, a $200 City Market gift card, a backpack with school supplies, a gift bag of games and two gift certificates from the Monte Vista Bowling Alley. Special funding from Colorado WIC made this event possible.

The best part was that breastfeeding mothers, friends, family members and the community all came together to celebrate breastfeeding success in our community.  There are so many ways to “Find Your Village” for breastfeeding support.

In good health,

Katy Baer
