Light parade is Saturday

ALAMOSA — Alamosa Round-UP’s 7th Annual Christmas Light Parade will be held on Saturday, December 23, at 6 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Alamosa. More than 30 floats have signed up, and this is looking to be the biggest parade — police cars decorated as reindeer, big John Deere harvesters, hummers and horses.

The winner the past two years, Ef's Restaurant and 5 Star Car Club have thrown down the gauntlet. They are promising something bigger and more incredible than their last two entries, which is saying a lot. In the past they have entered a life size train covered in lights and last year’s Santa's Sleigh and Reindeer.

The floats will be heading to Cole Park after the parade. Ef's Restaurant will be serving posole, and The Feedstore Church and Eastern Star Ladies will be selling hot chocolate and cookies.  Santa will be available for last minute Christmas wishes and pictures. There will also be music and lots of Christmas cheer. The parade is sponsored by The City of Alamosa, Alamosa County Local Marketing District, RMSER and The Alamosa Round-UP.

The 1st Annual Round-UP Rudolph Run is also shaping up to be a huge event with over 100 runners, walkers and strollers signed up already.

Winners in each age group will ride a Champion’s Float in the Light Parade. Sign-ups are still available online at imathlete.com through Friday, and race day registration is available starting at 1:30 p.m. at Cole Park. The race will start and end at Cole Park, so even those that don't want to run, should come check out the fun costumes and enjoy the festivities. The 1st Annual Round-UP Rudolph 5K Run starts at 3 p.m.  The 5K is sponsored by SLV Fitness and Carpenter Farms.
