Local literary magazine seeks submissions

ALAMOSA — For eight years, the Friends of the Alamosa Public Library has published a literary magazine called “Messages from the Hidden Lake,” which features local writers and photographers from here in the San Luis Valley. Now, they are excited to announce they are seeking submissions for their ninth edition.

Proceeds from the sale of the magazine goes to support the expansion of the library’s literary and art collection.

In the past, dozens of local writers and photographers have seen their works published in the magazine, which displays a different photograph submission every year. Because of the wide variety of works, there are different categories of submission: for children ages 6-12, for teens ages 13-17 and for adults 18 years old and older.

Additionally, there is also a wide genre to choose to submit to: Poetry, creative fiction or non-fiction, black & white photography, and full-color photography or art. At this time, they can accept art submissions that can be transmitted online.

The deadline for this year’s magazine is Sept. 1. All submissions must be turned in by that date. There will be cash prizes awarded for the best writers and photographers awarded later on in the year at the annual literary magazine reception.

Entry forms and submission guidelines are available online at http://www.alamosalibrary.org/volunteer/join-friends/

Electronic submissions are preferred, and can be emailed to Salai Taylor at [email protected]
