Local missionary dies from injuries in car crash

Bryant Keck of Sanford passed away late Tuesday afternoon after being injured in a serious crash Friday.

KAMLOOPS, British Columbia, Canada — A young LDS missionary from Sanford, serving in the Canada Vancouver Mission, is dead as a result of a serious crash at around 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, when the vehicle in which he was traveling collided with a pickup truck.

Bishop Les Crowther of Sanford said Elder Bryant Keck of Sanford passed away late Tuesday afternoon of injuries received in the crash, but he has no further details. Keck and Elder Dallin Thompson, 19, from Sahuartia, Arizona, were extracted and transported by air and ground ambulances to an area hospital.

“Both are in critical condition,” said a Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) release. “The two occupants of the pickup truck were assessed at scene and are physically unharmed.”

“Upon arrival on scene, two vehicles were observed to have collided. A SUV with two occupants was noted to have left the noted intersection to enter onto Highway 5 North. A northbound pickup truck with two occupants then collided with the SUV,” said RCMP Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk of Kamloops in the release.

The cause of the collision is under investigation by the Kamloops RCMP Municipal Traffic Services, with the help from a collision reconstructionist.
