Lots of action at demolition derby

ALAMOSA – The annual Alamosa Round-UP demolition derby took place Saturday at the Alamosa rodeo grounds.

There were several different classifications with several cars from locals to out of state drivers competing.

In the Old School Class, Dyani Ojeda was the winner and she was also named the most aggressive driver. Ryan Cordova was second, and Dominick Cisneros was third.

There were four cars in the Old School Class.

The Mini Car division was won by Ryan Martin. Jelani Martinez was second, and Carlos Romero was third.

George McAlear was the most aggressive driver.

Eleven cars were entered in the Mini Cars.

Winning the Large Car competition was Cordova. Jonathan Lunder finished second and was also named the most aggressive driver, and Ezekiel Gallegos was third.

There were seven cars entered in the Large Car division.

New to the demolition derby this year was the ATV Motocross Barrel Race. Jaxon Richey won the event in a time of 20.38 seconds, followed by Terry Bliesner in 21.43, and Jace Crowther in23.22.

There were 12 entries in this event.

The Alamosa Round-UP continues this weekend. On Thursday, it will be the mutton bustin’ and local barrel race at 6:30 p.m. The actual rodeo begins Friday with the slack at 10 a.m., and the first performance at 6:30 p.m. A block party in downtown Alamosa follows the first performance.

The rodeo ends on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. A concert by Justin Lawrence follows the second performance.
