Antonito resident Lucy Ruybal-Valdez, 97, passed away on December 26, 2017. Lucy was born December 15, 1920, in Antonito, Colorado, the daughter of Enos Ruybal and Lucinda Valdez Ruybal.  Lucy was a remarkable mother; grandmother and friend who loved to play the piano and sing. She grew a very large garden and canned everything she grew. She loved to sew, crochet and knit, she also loved to travel. She visited Mexico, Spain and she also lived on the East Coast. Lucy enjoyed socializing and eating out with family and friends.

Survivors include daughters, Martha Valdez & Luis Suarez of Pagosa Springs, CO, Beatrice Maria Valdez & Christopher Young of Washington D.C., sons, Crescencio Valdez Jr. of Adelphi, MD., Demetrio & Olive Valdez of Antonito, CO., Enos Robert Valdez of Gunnison, CO. also seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lucy was preceded in death by her husband Crescencio Valdez, two sisters, Delfina Rodriguez and Emma Wilson, one brother Enos Ruybal and one daughter-in-law Mary Valdez.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at 11:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery in Manassa. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, in honor of Lucy Ruybal-Valdez, at PO Box 305, Antonito, CO 81120. Arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Antonito.
