Monte Vista resident Lugarda P. Lucero, 86, passed away June 18, 2018 at the San Luis Care Center with her loving family by her side. Lugarda was welcomed into the world on February 10, 1932 in Ortiz, Colorado, the daughter of Candido Barela and Celia Cordova Barela. Lugarda was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed crafting, reading the Bible, baking and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughters Linda (Manuel D.) Atencio Jr., of Del Norte, CO; Janet Lucero (Walter Dominguez), Rachel (Norman) Valdez both of Monte Vista, CO; Sonia Archuleta of Alamosa, CO; son David Lucero Jr., of Monte Vista, CO; grandchildren Sandy (Anthony) Casias, Michelle (Stanley) Montoya both of Del Norte, CO; Jared (Rachel) Gallegos of Colorado Springs, CO; Ian Lucero (Amanda Granados), Emerald Lucero, Rachel (Jason) Chacon all of Alamosa, CO; Dana (Nicholas) Vigil, Nicolas, Adrian and Elsie Valdez all of Monte Vista, CO;17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews.

Lugarda was preceded in death by her husband David B. Lucero, three great-grandchildren Keith “Buddy” Abeyta Jr., David Montoya, Matthew Montoya, three brothers Willie, Candido and Elevenio Barela, two sisters Priscilla Mestas and Grace Quintana.

Visitation is Thursday from 1-5 at Romero Funeral Chapel in Monte Vista. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 7:00 Pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Interment will follow at the Monte Vista Cemetery.
